Chris Hockey
Senior Manager, Information Governance — Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP
I work in information governance: the practice of deciding what an organization should keep, for how long, who should see it, and why. I do it for a living, and I write about it because the field has plenty of people doing the work and too few thinking publicly about it.
This site is the version of me I control. Read what I think on What I Believe. Read what I’ve published or said on Speaking & Publications and Writing. Or reach out via Talk to Me.
AI GOVERNANCE
What works in practice, what doesn’t, and where the field is getting it wrong.
AI governance is becoming the dominant organizational conversation about information. Most of the frameworks being applied to it were built for something else. I write about what holds up under contact with real systems.
INFORMATION GOVERNANCE
Records, retention, and the long arc of what organizations should keep.
Information governance is older than AI and harder than people give it credit for. The questions — what to keep, for how long, who can see it, why — don’t get easier when the volume goes up. Most of my work, and most of my writing, sits here.
OPERATIONAL READINESS
Where governance programs actually live or die.
Policy is the easy part. The gap between a written policy and a working program is where most governance efforts fall apart. I think about that gap and how to close it.
